Who else but designer Karl Lagerfeld would stylishly take over the Chateau de Versailles with Chanel's answer to a Baroque history lesson? Known for over-the-top sets and fashion show backdrops each season, the
gold palace of Versailles took this extravagance just one step further with Chanel's Resort 2013 collection.
Cruise or Resort collections in mid-season are shown by only a
handful of the world's fashion power houses, created to
target wealthy women who travel on cruise ships in winter. Nowadays,
they are adopted as a lucrative means of re-stimulating fashion in this mid-season lull proving fashion to be increasingly buoyant while bucking
the global financial downturn.
Elaborate, embellished
garments perfectly suited the backdrop of the French palace, adorned in gold rope trim and floral embroidery galore. Lagerfeld's translation encapsulated Baroque-tinged wigs and ruffled, courtly hair bows in silk, meanwhile adding a splash of androgyny and a casual feel with the inclusion of blue denim amid the sea of tulle and rosebud chokers. The 18th century vibe was modernized in the form of
mini-skirted ball gowns, lots of cut-outs, and white-rubber soled
creepers.
Be transported to Versailles and indulge in the pageantry of the Chanel Resort show...
