One summer scouring the Internet for an activity to keep my daughter and I entertained on a rainy day, I found a ceramics art studio a little less than an hour away by car. That afternoon's adventure acquainted me with my new favorite craft - mosaics. Since that day, I have learned to treasure our chipped china plates and broken bowls instead of hopelessly chucking them into the trash.

Mosaic Melange is the art of creating beauty from something broken. Seeking resurrection in a little something new to maintain its spirit, my mosaic creations are assembled of porcelain, china, shells, glass and resin tiles in a variety of colors and patterns. Placed prose personalize each special piece. Works include, but not limited to: frames, mirrors, plaques, tables and trays. Here is a gallery of items produced with love, patience and lots of bisque stained grout.

One bead at a time...

Time has evolved into a reward for me, a coveted block uninterrupted the paycheck for hours of completed responsibilities. Like a child pocketing shells on the beach, I hold tight each one until enough has filled a pouch when I can calmly take hold and put to good use. It feels refreshing to reassemble and renew my craft. Remembering Rumi's words, my faith is restored...

Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.

At the work table for fresh design, this earned time allows flow of creativity. While all else fades, the present comes into sharp focus and my imagination travels to different parts of the world... into fertile earth, up in the sky, in the depths of the sea.

Color is vivid, patterns dance, textures sparks an idea. While some creations need very little effort, others are reworked until the balance is just right. Though using my craft as a reward and escape from the banal everyday, I am constantly aware of the common threads still present in the background, pulling me along, ever so taut.

Going green...

The grass is always greener on the other side... Turn over a new leaf... A green thumb... Green with envy... Shaking like a leaf...

Green signifies growth, renewal, and money. Green is life. Nature is borrowed for material development, used for literal inspiration, engaged to predict futures, a source to nurture and heal. Characterizing where and how we live, green carries the weight of the world in imagery, vision and spiritual reference, good, bad and indifferent, as diverse in meaning as the circle of life itself.

So many motifs in nature inspire industry. Leaves are found in fashion, home decor, accessories and art. Whether a gardener of green or a patron of pattern, explore the tangle of featured fronds, all current inspired creations seen in linens, on the runway, caressing smart phones, or sitting in the kitchen.
