When we married twenty years ago, we pondered over what parting gift would be given to guests in remembrance of our union. Both avid readers, Robert and I decided an eloquent book would be appropriate, one representing the essence of the day. Our selection was a rich burgundy velvet covered book of love poems, Love A Celebration, and I carefully wrapped each book with cream scripted paper, golden edge organza, and sealed the tag with our wax insignia.
In recognition of World Poetry Day, let me share two simple, yet thoughtful poems included in this tiny gem, one by Herbert Shipman, another from the novel Catriona by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Gentle yet impassioned, poetry is an art understood by many through feeling on a very personal level. This book has been fondly spotted at many a friends' home over the years, a quiet reminder articulating love while among bound friends on our bedroom shelf as well.
Happy World Poetry Day! xoxo-Sonya
