Have you read any featured magazine articles about the importance of getting a solid night of sleep? Scientists and doctors alike know that sleep is essential for memory formation and the repair of damage to your body's cells during the day. Proper sleep keeps hormones in balance and even wards off obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and infections. Resting allows the brain to sort and store information, replace chemicals, and even solve problems.
And I bet you thought the next celebratory day is Valentine's Day...
Well, think again...
Every January third is Festival of Sleep Day! While little is known of its origins or when it was first celebrated, this obscure holiday is becoming better known with each passing year. It's assumed that this unofficial holiday was created for people seeking rest and relaxation after Christmas shopping and New Year celebrations. Too bad we are all returning to the grindstone tomorrow, whether it be back to school or work...
So how do you celebrate a day where you have to sleep? You are supposed to just sleep, it's as simple as that! If you are so lucky to have tomorrow, by all means go ahead and spend the day in bed either alone, with your favorite pet or significant other! But if you have a jam-packed schedule, tomorrow provides the perfect excuse to just grab a nap at some point, close your eyes making yourself comfortable in any place with a dreamless rest. This is what true essence of sleeping is.
