Flowers don't worry about how they're going to bloom. They just open up and turn toward the light and that makes them beautiful. ~Jim Carrey
A soft milk glass goblet from grandma holds three peonies from the garden. They are the only flowers remaining the deer have not munched. These splendid blooms of soft pink tissue petals are mildly fragrant, and I smile and breathe a little deeper as I pass the kitchen table...
Flowers trigger happy emotions and induce a feeling of satisfaction, stimulating positivity. Studies have proven this to be true. Managing the day to day with a little help from nature, the sight and scent of flowers alters brain chemistry and lifts the spirit to feel stress less. A little bit can really go a long way.
Saturating our spirits, we often visit one of our favorite places, the New York Botanical Garden. Currently on view is Impressionism American Gardens on Canvas until September 11th. Painterly blooms are tall, vivid and artistically arranged in a tapestry of color, easily allowing ourselves to be immersed in the beauty of a classic American garden.
Every flower is a soul blossoming in nature. ~Gerard De Nerval
Serendipity... Brenna and I visited our local library the other day where I came upon two new books filled with pretty eye candy and checked them out to relish at home. Selina Lake's Botanical Style provides an abundance of decorating ideas with nature plants and florals. The Flower Workshop by Ariella Chezar is a beautiful assortment of painterly arrangements to try, many unexpected in form and flow, really magical to enjoy.
Is there anything that can transform a moment, a morning, a mood, or a space as instantly as an array of fresh flowers? Their color and aliveness, their fragrance, their movement, their ability to attract the eye (and distract it!), and the sheer sensual pleasure they give make them nearly miraculous. ~Ariella Chezar
Fruits display a continuum of color from the peachy oranges of the plums, peaches, and apricots to the red-purple of the berries - all acting as a foil for strategically placed roses. The tall glass pitcher lifts the arrangement, as if the roses were ballerinas suspended in space. ~Ariella Chezar
My goal is for you to learn to create arrangements that go beyond pretty and into the realm of the dramatic, the unexpected, and sometimes even the magical. ~Ariella Chezar
Using fresh flowers for decoration is a prerequisite of any botanical style. I like to gather a mix of flowers to make small posies, which I present in a few small vases rather than one big one. ~ Selina Lake
Draw colour inspiration from the hues of exotic flowers. Beautiful peachy coral begonia flowers and rainforest green make a perfect combination. ~Selina Lake
What better way keep the blues at bay with a flower a day... xoxo-Sonya
