Gatsby greats...

“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” ~ F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
The saying "what is old is new again" can easily apply to everything from lifestyle to fashion, and everything in between. Everywhere we turn, we encounter a timely tradition, intriguing vintage collectible or retro-inspired accessory that binds us to reminiscence. So it must be true that good style never goes out of fashion. With the newest theatrical release of The Great Gatsby this Friday starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, the 20's Deco is causing ripples in the present mainstream.
Costume designer, Catherine Martin collaborated with current fashion icon Muiccia Prada to create many of the ladies' ensembles. Original sketches from the Mui Mui and Prada archives were translated into the glamor and opulence of Daisy's wardrobe. "Our collaboration with Prada recalls the European flair that was emerging amongst the aristocratic East Coast crowds in the Twenties," concedes Martin. "The fashions of the time saw the development of a dichotomy between those who aspired to the privileged, Ivy League look of wealthy Long Island and those who were aspiring to European glamor, sophistication and decadence. Our collaborations with Prada reflect the collision of these two aesthetics."

Ivy League indeed, Mr. Jay Gatsby. His dapper gentleman looks inspired a limited edition collection from Brooks Brothers, who produced the majority of pieces for the male movie cast.

Superb miniature works of art adorn The Great Gatsby cast throughout the film. Produced by none other than Tiffany & Co., the Jazz-Age gems are available for purchase to the discerning collector or aficionado. Deco cuff links, floral artistry in diamonds and traditional pearls are among some of the timeless indulgences offered in this unique collection.

The Great Gatsby style is fueling a myriad of other crafts and industries. The geometric Deco trend continues into home decor, travel hotel renovations, table settings and even wedding invitations.

Extraordinary modernism born of a former time are alive and well in Gatsby greats...
